How to spend a Thursday

The day was warm and breezy, which can mean only one thing. Time to sail!! This was our first voyage of the year, assuming you don't count our little outing on the pond. Anthony, Jonathan, Thomas and I went to New Melones and had a very pleasant day.

Jonathan is measuring the wind while I hold the tiller. Anthony was in charge of the starboard genoa sheet. That is a fancy way of saying that he pulled on the rope.

Thomas also serves as the great helmsman.

We are on Port tack. Have you ever seen more beautiful clouds? Yes, the boat is leaning. That's what sailboats do.

The sails make for an interesting shot. You must take care to know what is in front of you when setting your course, as the genoa blocks a lot of the forward view.

Here we are on starboard tack. I am holding the camera level.

Jonathan isn't in the water, but he enjoys sailing just as much as swimming. We look forward to YOU coming along with us!

be safe,

Hec @ 19

I'll come, but only if the boat stays level. OK? Oh, alright, it can lean over a little bit.

Believe it or not, I do like being out there on the boat.

Glad you had a good day, now I have this list of honey do's...

Love you, JB

Yes, I heard Thomas bragging about this yesterday... :)

I didn't realize sailboats tilted like that... Does that take some getting used to?

Ohhhh!!! The clouds are simply gorgeous!!!

Y'all should bring the boat when y'all come out in May. I'm sure we can find a place to take a cruise. :)

Our Thursday wasn't nearly as beautiful as y'alls, but family, a good friend, banana pudding and old pictures brought a little bit of sunshine to the day. ;)

Wow, looks like fun. :-D It also looks like quite a different experience than one you would have in row boat.

Hey, how did Tiffany hear Thomas bragging about this yesterday?

Thomas, you only said you had "some" wind, it looks like a pretty good day to me!!!!

Sun, and *sob* warmth! What does being warm feel like again?

Joy, Tiffany heard Thomas bragging due to a several things, including: a phone, two ears, a voice, a voicemail, close proximity, and some tofu. (Ok, no tofu, but it sounded like a good thing to throw in there. What else can you use tofu for? It is certainly not edible!)

*sigh* Banana pudding. Maybe the cold is not so bad after all....

When do we take the boat out on the BAY?

Later,

BFH

Tiffany,
Some people enjoy the way that sailboats tip, others do not. Boats of this size do not tip completely over, but some of the smaller ones do. I am not bothered by the tipping, Mrs. Hector is.
The boat is coming with us in May. There is Clinton Lake, which has the added advantage of being in the shadow of a nuclear reactor, and there is the wide spot in the river North of Peoria. I'm going to leave it to you to figure out which one is the better choice. Perhaps we could sail the River all the way to Lake Michigan.
We had no banana pudding to enjoy; that would have made for a perfect ending to the day.

Joy,
It was a lot of fun, but nothing like a row boat. The oars in a row boat get sticky from all the Cheetos.

Ben,
You are in Illinois, and I have honey do's (see above). The Bay will have to wait.

By the way, I would like to thank everyone involved for not mentioning that I fell off the dock (also known as "the Nicholas move").

Oh I see... What are you doing in IL, Ben?
You know, I've never tried to eat tofu so I don't know if it's edible or not.

The oars get sticky from all the Cheetos? I see...
