One of the Last

Our trip around the country is sadly in its final stages. As I write this, we are driving through the southeast corner of Oregon, almost to the Nevada border where we will make camp for our last night in the RV. It may be sad that is drawing to a close, but the whole family is looking forward to being home after a month on the road. As usual, here are some events from the last few days of travel.

Have you noticed that we like family shots? It’s always: “Stand in front of that statue guys, we need to get a family shot!” or “Stand in front of that river guys, we need to get a family shot!” This post has a couple of those.

In the mornings, before we hit the open road, dad or I get out there on the ladder and clean the hundreds of miles of bug accumulation off the windshield. Good thing mom didn’t think he was someone trying to break in!

Most of the day on Thursday was spent in the RV, due to the fact that we had to make it to Boise by Friday. Sara and dad both got bored. Sara braided dad’s hair. Dad thought it was funny.

In central Montana we stopped at the Missouri River at another Lewis and Clark hot-spot. Remember what I said about street signs a few posts back? Well here’s another one we found.

How many people can say they sat on a bench in the middle of the Missouri River? We can!

Here’s one of those family statue shots. Lewis, Clark and Sacajawea are towering over us.

At the gas station we found something very interesting. I’ll let you try to figure out what it is, and more importantly, its peculiar location. (hint: it’s what you are trying for Pastor McD!!)

With a bit more driving, we arrived in the town of Great Falls, Montana. We made a quick stop by the visitor’s center to find out exactly where the waterfalls were. Dad said they were probably on the river we crossed over, and as usual, he was right. Back at the visitor’s center though… How rare is it to find two statues of exactly the same thing right next to each other?

And what do you know? They sold my size bib there!

After the visitor’s center, we made our way back to the river and to the falls. In order to get there, we had to cross a foot bridge that had some restrictions.

Mom and dad are very good about following the rules.

The falls were magnificent. They had a never ending roar which was like continuous waves hitting the surf.

Family shot!

The parking lot for the falls was just a bit narrow, so dad used his mad backing up skills to get us out of there.

That night we stayed in Butte, Montana at a truck stop with the roar of diesel engines to put us to sleep. Up early the next morning to make our appointment in Boise. We took a very scenic route through the Rocky Mountains.

Snow in June!

Family shot!

There are a bunch of tired kids here that are ready for some good night’s sleep.

After Boise, we stopped at the childhood hometown of our dear late friend Eric Davis. You were right Grandma Myers, bench wasn’t installed yet!

Here is my AWESOME baby sister Sara, eager to hit the road. Isn’t she growing into a fine young lady?

We shall end with this picture of dad in the driver’s seat, with the great west reflecting off his glasses, overjoyed that we are almost home.

This isn’t the end! Check back for the final chapter of our return to California!

See, I am checking the blog minute by minute, just to look for updates!

Love the hair dad, you were just made for braids.

You have got to be kidding! A grill at a gas station? Are they trying to get people to kill themselves? Well, I guess when the truckers are filling their big tanks, they might have time to cook up a couple burgers....

Great Falls beats Sioux Falls, hands down.

Each and every photo makes me miss you more. Only one more day! Hurry home... I'll try to have everything ready for your return!

I'm sure Anthony was glad to see the front of the RV again.

Oh, you are really stylin' with those braids, Mr. H.! Sara did a fabulous job! :)

Okay, so I saw the gas station picture (before I read the hint left for my dad) and thought it looked that thing in our front yard, but couldn't figure out what it was! That really is one strange place for that! Out of curiosity, did y'all ask why it was there?

The bib is adorable, Thomas!

Oh, the falls are incredible! I've got to see them and see how they compare with Niagara.

Lovely blog post, Thomas.

Dear Hector Family,

You have inspired us to take our little family "to see the world" or at least as many states as possible. My husband and I are first and second, respectfully, generation Christians. Seeing glimpses of your family life gave us much encouragement as we raise our 6 little (7 and under!)ones to love the LORD and His people!

Hopefully, your trip home was safe and you've rested well. Thanks for blogging your trip!
In Christ,
