Boating is serious business

Of all the local lakes, New Hogan Reservoir is closest to our house. It isn't the biggest lake and it doesn't have the best amenities or scenery, but it's close. That's why it was chosen for our latest excursion.

The purpose of this trip was to sharpen Ben's skippering skills. Being an 8 to 5 kind of person, he tends to miss out on our adventures. We'll put some sea legs under him!

Thomas and Ben were there...

...along with Pops and Jonathan. Everyone else had other pressing matters to attend to.

He's getting the hang of it!

I had intended to center my comments around the topic of boating safety, but many of the photos taken that day do not support the message.

Thomas doesn't really want to drown Ben; it just looks that way.

There is only one possible outcome in this scenario.

I believe that this photo will wind up hanging on the wall in the Hector home.

That had to hurt. The inflatable was doing an estimated 20 mph (17.38 knots).

Thomas' concern was instantly replaced by pure amusement. Empathy was never his strong suit.

The sailboat is serene, the inflatable is manic. Together, they make a great pair. Metaphors abound.

Next stop: Pinecrest Lake and Family Camp!! We can hardly wait!

In life's hustle and bustle, we often forget to stop and drink in God's amazing creation. There are many ways to avail yourself of His rich blessings. Find yours.

be safe,
Hec @ 19

Oh, it looks so peaceful and serene. I know full well the day was HOT. Glad you got to go.

The picture of Ben tillering the boat looks portrait-like, except for Thomas in the background of course. Too funny!

I liked the series of Ben jumping/falling into the water. Thomas was in rare form with his expressions.

Looks like Jonathan is becoming a true boatman.

Family Camp will be fun. You will be on land some of the time, right?

*laughs* I love the sequence of photos of Ben jumping in! Looks like he's trying to be Peter Pan and is either lacking the Pixie dust or the happy thoughts!

Thomas looks like he's accomplished something huge in the 11th picture with his fist in the air.

Fun pictures and good captions! Miss y'all!

The pictures are nice yes, but the day was MUCH more fun! One of my favorite days on the boats so far.

I did accomplish something great Tiffany! I got in the picture that wasn't intended for me! Wasn't thinking that at the time though... We miss you too!!

We'll have to go out again soon Dad.

Tiffany,
LOL.That is just too funny about Ben and the fairy dust. He is almost finished reading Peter Pan to the family and it is a fitting description of this photo.

You also need to see the other pics of Thomas' face throughout the day. He was hilarious.

Have a blessed Lord's Day!

Love & Blessings, Mrs.H

Thomas,

You're such a ham! The pictures were hilarious, and Ben's calm expression contrasted with your excited one is so funny! You will take time off when I'm out there, right?

Mrs. H.,

Peter Pan is a fun book! Ben would've played the part perfectly had he been a child actor. :) So, you think it's the Pixie dust missing? :) See y'all soon!!!!

Dad,

It was a delightful time out on the water. I second Thomas' statement that it was our best day. Thanks for keeping on us, and caring enough to teach your unskilled son a little more about boating. I promise I won't run it aground again, regardless of who's fault it was this time. Can't wait for PINECREST!!!!!

Mom,

Leave it to Thomas to ruin my contemplative portrait, that could have been hung on a wall as a testament to my dashing good looks. See what I have to put up with? Yes, Tiff, he exalts for no other reason than the ruin of my portrait! *sobs*

Hayden,

See what I have to put up with?

Tiffany,

Oh, I have plenty of happy thoughts. Sadly, pixie dust has been in short supply as of late. Have some on back order, maybe in September?

Jess,

I tried to talk Thomas into jumping out of the boat to, but he was just being his oldstickinthemud self. *brightens up* Maybe next time!

Tiffany2,

I don't know about being a child actor, they never seem to turn out all that good....

Ben,

I still think the picture should hang on the wall. :) I lost my Pixie dust in the move. Maybe the movers made off with it...

Thomas,

Glad to hear you'll be off! :) We so excited and can't wait to be there!
